Happy Snacking!
Snack Attack Instructions
Goal: children will be able to make a healthy snack and learn the importance of good food choices.
Game/Warm-up: (if time allows): Ask the children what they think some healthy food would be. Why is it important to eat healthy food? How do we feel when we eat healthy food vs. not healthy food?
Explain to the children that we are going to play a game. You will say a food: if it is a healthy food, the children will jump up and down, if it is not a healthy food, the children will lie on the floor. Naming several types of food will give the children the opportunity to recognize the difference between healthy and not healthy food.
Caterpillar Crunch
¼ of a cup of cheerios
¼ cup of raisins
¼ cup of wheat Chex cereal
and 1 tablespoon of seasonal candy or dried fruit.
Steps: Give each child a Ziploc bag. Talk about how the Ziploc bags are small because when we have a snack we only need a small portion of food. JLM will then scoop:
If using candy be sure to ask the children why there is more cereal and raisins than candy. The end product will be caterpillar crunch!!!
Please look for the gloves in the snack attack tub. Do not let the kids scoop their own food.
Fruit Splash Water
Fresh lemon lime and orange slices
Frozen berries
Steps: Give each child a small glass of water and allow the child to pick what type of fruit they would like in their water. JLM will use gloves to pick the fruit and place it in the water.
